About Robert Mitchell:
Mr World 1985
Mr Britain 1984, 1985, 1986
Robert Mitchell, the second son and third child to Colin Mitchell and Patricia Brown. Rob was raised in the mill town of Brighouse, West Yorkshire with Brother Paul and Sister Lynn.

Rob started weightlifting at the age of 13 when invited down to the local club by a school friend. This came about after a dumbbell was found in the school gym store room. Several boys were trying to lift the weight, when Rob was invited to have-a-go. Rob picked up the dumbbell with one hand and pressed it overhead. Only then was it revealed that the others were using both hands. “I guess it didn't weigh that much, about 25 lbs. But at 13 and weighing nothing more than 8 stone myself, it seemed heavy enough”.

Rob moved on from weightlifting to power lifting and finally to Bodybuilding. He entered his first contest; the Jr Mr Yorkshire in 1978, finishing second to Andrew Leslie. After the contest, the then guests of the day, Terry Phillips and Bill Tearney, gave him a few tips and six months later, he returned to win the first of three successive area titles for three consecutive years (9 titles in total).

This was followed with a sixth place and two, fifth places in the NABBA Jr Mr Britain finals, behind the likes of Brian Buchannon, Vince Brown, Andrew Webb and Jefferson King (who later became 'Shadow' in Gladiators).

Rob also achieved a second in the NABBA Jr Champion of Champions (to Sulby Prince) and a third in the NABBA Jr Adonis (behind Brian Buchannon and Sulby Prince).

Rob was never to be beaten in his entire career for 'Best Presentation', winning the first of these awards at the British finals while still a junior and still the only junior to do so!

His junior career ended on a high note with victory in the IBBU Jr Mr Britain after being runner-up the previous year to Ramsford Smith.
